🍉Following the Six-Day War in 1967, the Israeli government imposed a ban on all public displays of the Palestinian flag and its associated colors. This prohibition extended to various forms of expression, including publications, advertisements, and even the possession of historical photographs featuring the flag. Violating these restrictions could lead to imprisonment or even graver consequences. In response to this ban, watermelon emerged as a subtle means for Palestinians to express their national pride. With its red, green, black, and white coloring mirroring the Palestinian flag's hues, watermelon became a creative and peaceful act of protest. Even the simple act of holding a slice of fresh watermelon outdoors became a powerful symbol of resistance and a form of product disobedience. The watermelon is used to this day as a symbol of resistance.
